Community links and partnerships

The school community involves more than just students and teachers; it encompasses anyone involved with the school or its members.  For example, family/whanau, local store owners, cleaners and bus drivers to name a few.  Ensuring that your wider school community members feel a part of the school and support your initiatives is important.

With regards to smokefree, positive changes in behaviour are far more likely when a student goes home to a family that is smokefree, or to a community within which smokefree is the norm.  A student that is not exposed to smoking is less likely to become a smoker.  The links below provide information on how to work with your wider school community to increase smokefree behaviours.

For sustainable change, it is also important to embed smokefree messages and practices into Curriculum, teaching and learning and School organisation and ethos.
