The Heart Foundation cares for the heart health of the community and demonstrates this by promoting healthy lifestyles from an early age. In school community’s, this means encouraging healthy eating, regular physical activity and being smokefree. The Heart Foundation provides education programmes to Schools and Early Childhood Centres in order to promote heart healthy habits to our children and young people. These programmes include:
* Jump Rope for Heart - Taura Peke mo te Manawa Ora – which is an iconic Kiwi physical activity programme now into its second generation of developing heart healthy children through skipping
* Healthy Heart Award - which supports primary and secondary schools to develop environments that promote healthy nutrition and lifestyles to the whole school community
* Heart Start - Toitoi Manawa – which is a free curriculum linked programme partially funded by the Ministry of Health. It is offered to all schools across New Zealand. The programme fits in well with schools existing work and helps your school build a heart healthy environment. Your school may already be underway with an edible garden, or a breakfast club so by signing up to Heart Start you can gain recognition for your hard work!

Sport Bay of Plenty
Partner Leader: Wayne Werder
Established in 1987, Sport Bay of Plenty is a not
for profit charitable trust that strives to get more people, more active, more often through the provision of information and support across the Sport and Recreation sector. Operating under our organisational values of Passion, Professionalism, Humility and Innovation our mission is to inspire and enable Bay of Plenty communities to be the most active in New Zealand.
Covering a wide area; from Waihi Beach, to Cape Runaway in the East and across to Turangi, our team are based out of 3 Sports Houses in Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane. Through these Sports Houses and our incredible team we work closely with our communities to make physical activity and sport part of everyone’s lifestyle.
Although our roots are embedded in sport we work collaboratively with a number of community partners to make a positive difference in the Bay of Plenty. As the Bay of Plenty has evolved Sport Bay of Plenty has adapted and moved into additional areas such as Recreation, Health and Early Childhood.
Our structure represents the diversity of the Bay of Plenty region and its specific needs; with the Community Team looking after the Health, Sport Opportunities and Pathways area’s, the Sport Team looking after the School Sport, Coaching and Sport Development areas, and the Commercial Team looking after the Operational and Marketing elements of the organisation.
The future looks positive and we will endeavour to work with our communities to make the Bay of Plenty a great place to live and play.
